Assistant to the Director

Duties:
The Director of the Foundation for Scientific Literacy, a non-profit educational organization, seeks a motivated individual to oversee and manage her business and personal activities. Ideal for a retired or semi-retired professional or academic who wants to support scientific literacy. You would support the Director by carrying out administrative tasks to free her time for fulfilling her core competencies. You would do essential office tasks including bookkeeping, correspondence, answering phones, grant writing, filing, and maintaining supply stocks. Also, you would interact with other Foundation staff, providing support for their responsibilities.
We seek a dedicated individual looking for long-term employment who can commit to at least one year with us.

Skills Required:
Writing: Must write and speak English clearly and professionally. Must have experience with word processing and spreadsheet software.
Bookkeeping: Must understand accounting practices; familiarity with QuickBooks a plus.
Communication: Must have good interpersonal skills; must present a cheerful and professional phone presence when representing the organization and the Director.
Organization: Must keep clear and accurate records of meetings and business transactions so other staff members can easily assess status and follow up effectively.
Motivation: Has an interest in science and scientific education. Has incentive to promote the organization.
Initiative: Able to work independently, solve problems, and offer suggestions for improvement.

Compensation:
This position provides steady, paid part-time work (at least 10 hours per week). Hourly pay will be based on typical rates for the industry and on the experience and productivity of the candidate.
